Join JENMAN African Safaris on one of our safaris to Kafue National Park, which is one of Zambia’s oldest and largest wildlife areas. Covering an astounding 22 400 km sq, the park holds a diverse range of ecosystems. Undiscovered by many tourists, the area offers intimate animal encounters and game experiences. The park is named after its life source, the Kafue River, 250 km long from source to mouth.
This vital body of water provides sustenance to a variety of species drawn to the different habitats from Miombo Woodland, to Acacia shrubland, the Busango floodplains as well as riverine and swamp habitats. The Busanga plains are one of Zambia’s most significant wetland areas, as well as a haven for birds. The birdlife of the park is over 500 species strong, as well as boasting an equally impressive antelope population.
From roan and sable, red lechwe and hartebeest to the endemic puku, a visit to Kafue offers the chance to appreciate the diversity of species. Due to the abundance of plains game, the predator population of the park is extremely healthy. Lion, leopard and cheetah roam with confidence. They share their terrain with great herds of elephants, buffalo, wild dog, and if you’re lucky – pangolin.
A true hidden Zambian gem, the Kafue National Park is a bucket list Zambian destination not to be missed.
