Unique South African Restaurants

Cape Town has a great offer of many delicious gastronomic specialties from all over the world. In this blog we want to show you our most favorite places.

GOLD Restaurant
“Celebrate the culture of an African Restaurant, experience unique African and Cape Malay cuisine as GOLD Restaurant takes you on a taste safari.”

This is how the popular GOLD Restaurant describes itself. You will have the possibility to sample cuisine from their Cape Malay kitchen or enjoy their well-loved traditional African inspired dishes. The menu is served at the table as a set tasting menu either in sharing or individual portions. It is one of the best places to enjoy tasteful food while relaxing in a beautiful dining area adorned with unique African decoration and entertainment. While you eat, African drumming, interactive Djembe drumming session and a soothing hand washing ceremony provides for incredible, immersive entertainment.

The Africa Café
The Africa Café is located in the city center and serves communal feasts consisting of traditional Ndebele, Xhosa and Zulu dishes. You can enjoy a great variety of tasteful food and wine in typical African scenery. The menu is an extensive, set menu which is perfect for a sociable dinner together where little choice is involved. The menu is served at the table and the friendly staff will explain to you every dish. You can eat as much as you like. A usual menu consists of about 16 dishes including coffee, tea and dessert. Also of interest is the ceramic pottery studio which is funded by the restaurant. It is a place where they teach people from disadvantaged backgrounds

Tree’s Restaurant at the Townhouse Hotel
Located on the 1st floor of the Townhouse Hotel, and surrounded by large glass windows, the experience at Tree’s Restaurant emulates that of being in a tree house. You can either have breakfast there as well as lounge-style lunch, coffee & tea and dinner. Everything is prepared in-house, from the freshest products, Cape seafood, A-grade meats and homemade desserts. Michelin-trained executive chef Stefan Schmidt gained his experience in Germany and has now joined the Townhouse Hotel & Conference Centre. He will ensure a delicious and exquisite dining experience.

Black Merlin Seafood Restaurant
Once a whaling station, the historical building now is the perfect place to enjoy an idyllic lunch or dinner while watching whales sidling along the coastline during “whale season” (early July to December).  The restaurant also offers a beautiful garden which is inviting, especially during the summer months. Aside from a wide range of tasty seafood dishes, there is also meat, vegetarian food and salads. To complete your dining experience there is a wine menu where you will most certainly find your favorite taste.

City Grill
The traditional South African Steakhouse is located at the Waterfront where you can enjoy the magnificent sea view with Table Mountain as a backdrop. It is famous for its typical South African dishes and beautifully matured beef steak. The food is drenched in African spirit and kept traditional. Very popular is their Bobotie and Ostrich Fillet Steak.

If you are unsure about your choice regarding the wines they offer, you have the option of talking to their Sommelier who will provide excellent advice.
