ROMANTIC Getaway to South Africa

Here is to all of you who want to surprise their better halves with something special! Just before New Years’ I received a call from my better half asking me to please take leave on the 13th February. I wasn’t allowed to ask questions…

The Valentines weekend came closer and finally I twisted my boyfriend’s rubber arm and he promised me a hint via email! There I go pressing ‘send and receive’ in my Outlook and the email comes flying. I open it and get the following:

“GOT YA”

On Friday, 13th we left our home at 5.30 heading out on the N2. Yay – we going to the warm side of the Ocean. Around lunch-time we arrive in VicBay – South Africa’s so famous surf spot!
For anyone interested in a surf trip to South Africa – here you will have a world class surf experience. This right point-break starts working from 1ft through to a 12ft swell. It is very consistent and you can have a great session in all tides. Check the picture below for a taste.

Victoria Bay is just off the N2, 5 km before Wilderness. You can either camp here on one of the two campsites on either side of the lagoon or rent one of the plenty self-catering cottages. Especially during South Africa’s summer season this spot is very busy so make sure you book early!

In the afternoon we continued our drive to the ‘secret spot’. Driving on the N2 from George to Knysna, we turned left just 5 km outside Sedgefield and drove for 15 km along forest road to finally reach Teniqua Tree Trops!

Teniqua Treetops is a unique, tented tree house resort, occupying a position high on the foothills of the ancient Outeniqua mountain range. What an amazing spot! We occupied a self-catering tree house with a big terrace overlooking a gorge, a fantastic corner bath and most importantly a huge king size bed! There was a complimentary bottle of champagne on the table and a vase with a single rose – what more can a girl asks for but this amazing surprise?!

We spend the next two days exploring the area and visiting Knysna for some of their famous oysters and of course have a swim in the warm Indian Ocean!

This year it’s my turn to plan Valentine’s day …
