Chobe National Park in Botswana is fondly known as the “Land of Giants” because of its large elephant and buffalo populations. It’s also one of the best places in Africa to see elephants in the water instead of on land. The river from which the park takes its name is a beautiful home to many hippos and crocodiles and draws the large herds of elephants and buffalos to its banks. There are also large groups of lions and antelope in the lush floodplains that border the river.

Hwange National Park is the largest park in Zimbabwe and is known for its impressive elephant population, with super herds that number up to 350. These large herds descend upon the man-made waterholes and provide a breathtaking wildlife experience. This park in the northwest corner of Zimbabwe is still a bit of an undiscovered tourist gem, which means smaller crowds and the feeling of having it all to yourself.

Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe is the world’s largest man-made lake and is incredibly rich with wildlife and water activities. Here you can have the unique experience of journeying on a houseboat in Africa, cruise along at sunset and view wildlife from the luxury and comfort of your bed. In the day try your hand at fishing in the bountiful waters and then kick back and relax on the lake shores at a “beach” BBQ in the evening.

Rhinos are fascinating creatures with an almost pre-historic appearance. Unfortunately, chances of spotting them in the wild are increasingly rare due to the unfortunate poaching that is driven by a misguided demand for their horns. On a rhino tracking excursion in Matopos, Zimbabwe you will have a chance to view one of the Big Five up close. Experienced guides are able to track the rhino in the wild and they will take you along and teach you their ways. While tracking the rhino in the bush you will also learn about the various other fauna and flora that surround you. It’s an incredibly informative and interactive experience, with fascinating information that you can take home to impress your friends.

The Makgadikgadi pans in Botswana are known for their seemingly endless vistas and otherworldly allure. Here you can experience a beautiful starkness of nature that is only occasionally broken up by towering baobabs and a nocturnal sky that is heavy with stars and the purple clouds of the sparkling Milky Way. Enjoy an evening walk amongst the baobabs and watch the night sky come alive in this land that time forgot.

The best way to experience the famous Okavango Delta is on a Makoro, a traditional dugout boat that takes you through the wetlands, immersing yourself in the natural habitat of the bountiful birds, hippos and frogs who thrive here. Don’t be surprised if a brightly coloured frog hops onto your boat to say hello. Birdwatchers, in particular, will be thrilled by all the variety on offer, so captivating are the different species that travellers who may not have considered themselves twitchers before will consider taking up the hobby – even if just for the holiday.

This amazing tour truly showcases the best of Zimbabwe and Botswana and will touch the soul of anyone who experiences it, leaving them with a lifetime of memories and a deep love for Africa.

There are three different sections to find Hwange National Park lodges, camps and private villas for the best accommodation and safari experience – Robins, Sinimatella and Main Camp.
