Why We Love Madagascar

From the busy, bustling cities to the tranquil, extraordinary forests. Madagascar touches your soul.” It’s no secret that we love Madagascar, but do you know why? In this article, our team shares their special insight and reasons why this incredible country should be on everybody’s bucket list.

The above quote is from Amber our Head of Reservations who went on a familiarisation trip to Madagascar last year. Johann, our Head of Product, believes that the island’s flora and fauna is its unique drawcard saying that “80% of the wildlife and landscape that you see there, you see nowhere else. It’s why you go there. If you just wanted to relax on a beach then you could visit Mauritius or the Seychelles. Madagascar offers that as well as a bonus, but the amazing drawcard is the endemic flora and fauna.

Our Tailor Made Team Leader, Will, says that “for me, Madagascar proved to be every bit as exhilarating as anticipated, I was touched by the humility of the people and the serenity of the wildlife and scenery.” Tarisai, who is also part of the Tailor Made team found it a “unique and raw destination full of new experiences.”

Kate, our Digital Marketing Manager went on an unforgettable holiday to Madagascar before she even started working at Jenman Madagascar Safaris (coincidentally it was a Jenman organised tour) says that “For me, it’s the history. Madagascar has such a multi-faceted identity – it’s a melting pot of so many different countries, cultures and creatures combined that make it what it is today – one of the most unique places you will ever visit. Long before written history, the local Malagasy tribes traded with the Arabs, the Chinese, the Indonesians, the Malaysians, the Europeans and of course the Africans from across the Mozambique Chanel from where they originated.

Trading, intermarrying and socializing with these varied cultures not only influenced the look, language, and culture of its modern-day people but the designs of the dhows and pirogues they sail, the way they prepare and cook their food, and even the appearance of their Asian-like livestock! The French more recently influenced the main towns and ports with its Victorian-style architecture and freshly baked baguettes still being sold in the markets to this day. Simply put, when you travel through Madagascar, it is literally like walking through the pages of a living history book and there is not one thing that you lay your eyes on that doesn’t have a fascinating story behind it!”

We don’t only sell amazing Madagascar holidays, we truly love Madagascar and what it has to offer. Why not find out for yourself and book your dream Malagasy holiday today. Who knows, maybe in the future we will share your own glowing review?
